What Our Atlanta Relocation Services Include

Relocating is more than a truck and a lease. You are choosing a neighborhood you have never lived in, finding a home from a distance and setting up a whole new routine. We guide you through all of it, one step at a time. We are not a moving company: we focus on the housing and settling-in side of your move.

Your move plan

Tell us where you will work, when you start and what you want from a home. We turn that into a clear plan, so every decision after that has a reason behind it.

Neighborhood guidance

Atlanta is a metro of very different areas. We explain how they compare on commute, lifestyle and price, so you choose with confidence instead of guessing from a map.

A home shortlist

You get a shortlist of homes that fit your budget, your commute and the way you live, not a long list to sort through yourself. See what is available now on our rentals page.

Tours, applications and your lease

We guide you through touring, applying and signing, and we explain the Georgia lease basics along the way, so there are no surprises on move-in day.

Utilities and services

We walk you through starting power, gas, water and internet, so your new home is ready when you arrive.

Settling in

We give you a first-month checklist for the things new Georgia residents have to do, including your driver’s license and vehicle registration.

Where to Live in Atlanta: Inside or Outside the Perimeter

The first thing locals will ask you is whether you live ITP or OTP. It means inside or outside the Perimeter, the I-285 loop around the city. The answer shapes your commute, your rent and your daily routine.

Inside the Perimeter (ITP)

Generally more urban, with dining, culture and offices close by. Commutes to city workplaces are usually shorter, and rents are generally higher.

Outside the Perimeter (OTP)

Generally more suburban and more affordable, with more space. Expect longer drives to the city, and plan for traffic at the major I-285 interchanges.

Neither side is better. The right choice depends on where you work, how you like to spend your evenings and what you want to pay. Rents have also been mixed across Atlanta this year, so we look at current listings near your workplace.

Buckhead

North Atlanta, inside the Perimeter. A major business and shopping district with a mix of high-rises and residential streets. Our office is here.

Midtown

Central Atlanta, inside the Perimeter. Dense and walkable, next to Piedmont Park, with MARTA rail stations and many employers nearby.

Decatur

A small city just east of Atlanta, in DeKalb County, with a walkable town square and a MARTA rail station.

Not sure which fits? Tell us where you will work and we will map out your options. Looking somewhere else in metro Atlanta? Tell us and we will let you know whether we can help.

Setting Up Utilities in Atlanta

Some landlords expect utilities to be in your name by the day your lease starts, so it helps to line them up before you arrive. Here is who provides what.

Your First 30 Days in Georgia

Georgia gives new residents a short window for a few important tasks. Put these on your calendar before you arrive.
  1. Get a Georgia driver’s license. You must apply within 30 days of becoming a Georgia resident. You do it in person at a Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) center and surrender your out-of-state license. Bring two documents that prove Georgia residency, such as a rental contract or a utility bill.

  2. Register your vehicle. You must register within 30 days of moving to Georgia, and you need your Georgia license first. Registration is handled through your county tag office and the Georgia Department of Revenue.

  3. Update your address. Tell your employer, bank, insurer and any subscriptions your new address.

  4. Check on renter’s insurance. Ask your landlord whether it is required, and compare quotes if it is.

Rules, fees and required documents change. Confirm the details with the Georgia Department of Driver Services (dds.georgia.gov) and the Georgia Department of Revenue (dor.georgia.gov).

Relocation Assistance for Atlanta: What to Ask Your Employer

Many people moving to Atlanta for work get help from their employer. These packages vary a lot, so read your offer carefully. We can work alongside whatever you are offered.

Questions to ask before you accept

  • Is the help a lump sum or a reimbursement for receipts?

  • Does it include temporary housing, and for how long?

  • Which costs count, and which do not?

  • Do you have to repay any of it if you leave the job within a set period?

Georgia Premier Homes helps with the housing and settling-in side of the move. Tell us what your employer is providing and we will plan around it.
